Language Development
At Ranskill we are passionate about ensuring our children develop effective spoken communication. We offer our children a range of opportunities in the Early Years to develop their spoken language including sharing their learning on open days, school performances, telling stories, poetry recitals, a structured approach to learning new vocabulary and a well structured curriculum that ensures a language rich environment.
Our Early Years practitioners have completed Shrec training that promotes high quality interactions between practitioners and children.
AlexBedford and Julie Sherrington's model
Providing children with meaningful and purposeful opportunities to use language is central to great learning. At Ranskill we have used Joan Tough's research on the seven elements of language functions to ensure our children access all elements of language, including the more complex and cognitively challenging strategies.
These ways of communicating are then built on in key stage one as children receive a curriculum planned to enable them to develop the ability to
- talk to inform and listen to information
- talk to entertain and listen to entertainment
- talk to discuss and listen to discussion
