Statement from the Chair

We are proud to be part of SHINE Multi Academy Trust (SHINE) as their appointed North Nottinghamshire local governing body (LGB).

Our LGB has a clear vision and strategic direction for Ranskill Primary School (academy) in order to uphold the high standards of achievement and secure the safety and well-being of all pupils and staff. This also allows us to hold the headteacher to account in terms of the educational performance.

We are privileged to support the academy as volunteers and are fully committed to uphold the values and ethos of the academy, which are encompassed in these two maxims:

  • Dare to be Different
  • Take Care

We are also extremely proud of our staff and pupils achievements which were validated by Ofsted in November 2020 as they determined we were ‘Good’.

As we continue to support the headteacher in her role, we are focused on academy improvement. High among our priorities is ensuring that all our pupils, including those with special needs and/or disability, are well supported. As well as this, we play close attention to how the Pupil Premium and P.E. and Sports Premium grants is spent and the impact this has on outcomes.

We work closely with staff to fulfil our quality assurance role through our activities such as: monitoring visits and meeting with the school council. This engagement enables us to confidently support and challenge leadership as a critical friend. There are link governors who have responsibility for:

  • the effectiveness of leadership and management which includes child protection
  • personal development, behaviour and welfare
  • quality of teaching, learning and assessment
  • outcomes for pupils
  • early years provision

Reports are submitted to the LGB to ensure all governors have an opportunity to understand the successes and areas of improvement across every area of academy performance.

We also work closely with SHINE to review and agree policies, such as:

  • admissions
  • attendance
  • behaviour
  • special educational needs and disabilities
  • child protection and safeguarding

All policies are published on our website and are available through the school office.

With the enthusiasm and dedication of our headteacher and her staff, along with the knowledge and collaboration that comes with being part of SHINE, we believe we are able to maintain and develop the excellent education on offer for all our pupils.

Minutes of our meetings are public documents – you can request these via our school office or by contacting our clerk (

Yours Faithfully

Mike Spencer
