Home Learning Packs
Welcome to the Class Two Home Learning Page. It is an unusual time for us all and the need to home school our children whilst also working from home brings new challenges to all of us. The support offered below is a variety of ideas that you can use in addition to the packs the children were sent home with.
Also if you follow the school on Twitter, links to useful websites are regularly posted. Please don't forget that many household tasks offer valuable learning opportunities and be reassured that everybody is in the same position. If you require any help, support or advice staff are available the dojo message system.
Local History Month
May is Local History Month, where we encourage everyone to look around them and to explore their own local history. With many of us spending more time at free that provide a mixture of historical knowledge and activities. I have attached these below for you to take a look at. They can be used in addition or instead of your food project in this week home learning pack. resources, this is the perfect opportunity to think about the history of your local area, the people who lived within it, and any historical events they may have been involved in. The HA has published a range of
On Friday 8th Of May many of us will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day, which marks the end of World War Two. You may be having stay at home street parties and decorating your homes in red, white and blue to represent the Union Jack, to remember and celebrate the brave soldiers who fought in the war.
Here are some activities and resources to help you to do the same if you'd like to participate. Please send me any photos to show how you are celebrating VE Day, I'd love to see what you get up to.
At 9am on 8th May, The Queen will address the nation and there will be a live stream on BBC – which is the exact same time that her father, King George VI, spoke to the UK 75 years ago, on the actual VE Day.
Talk for Writing
In Class 2 we use the Talk for Writing approach developed by Pie Corbett a lot when we are writing. These units follow the same approach to support you with teaching your child to write at home.
Pie Corbett is also presenting a free, interactive literacy show each day. There are language games and creative writing as well as an author/poet of the week. He really is fantastic and I would strongly recommend that you access these! Click on the link below to listen to today's, or previous, shows.
The creators of Times Tables Rock Stars have produced a platform for boosting addition and subtraction skills, called NumBots. Due to Covid-19, NumBots have kindly granted Class 2 with access to their website and they all now have a personal login. NumBots is an online game (playable at play.numbots.com or there is an app) and playing little and often will significantly improve your child’s recall and understanding of number bonds and addition and subtraction facts. These are critical foundations in maths so I am excited by the impact NumBots will have.
There are 2 game modes:
1. Story Mode – the emphasis is on learning the ideas and concepts behind addition and subtraction so it features more diagrams, shapes and question styles.
2. Challenge Mode – the emphasis is more on speed of recall of key facts, like number bonds to 10, doubling small numbers or adding & taking away in your head.
The great thing about NumBots is that I can see which children are using the service and how they are getting on, meaning I can monitor their progress.
Please message me on dojo and I will send your child's login. Let me know if you have any questions.
