Statement from the Chair

Our Local Governing Body (LGB) has established a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school and is proud to be part of SHINE Multi Academy Trust; to ensure the safety and well-being of all our pupils and staff; we hold the Headteacher to account in terms of the educational performance of the school and its pupils and, oversee the financial performance of the school - making sure that its money is well spent.

We are proud to support the school as volunteers and are confident that as a leadership team we can secure its ‘good’ status when next inspected by Ofsted. We clearly believe in the culture, values and ethos of our school which is encompassed in our motto:

‘Inspiring children to Shine at their best’

We work closely with all our staff, through monitoring visits, learning walks and data workshops as this engagement enables us to confidently challenge leadership in our role as a critical friend.

One of our roles is to review and agree policies, and last year we considered a number of policies:

  • Admissions
  • Anti-Bullying
  • Attendance
  • Behaviour
  • Child Protection and Safeguarding

To name just a few – all policies are published on our website and available through the office.

The LGB will continue to focus on: school improvement; embedding changes to the curriculum and assessment to ensure future sustainability as we work together throughout 2018/19.

One of our priorities is to ensure that all our children including those with special needs and/or disability are well supported. We will continue to focus on how the Pupil Premium and P.E and Sports Grants are being spent by the school and what impact this has on their outcomes. There are link governors, who have responsibility for special education needs and/or disability, achievement and data, quality of teaching and safeguarding all of which are of great importance and reports are submitted to the LGB to ensure all governors have an opportunity to understand the successes and areas of improvement across the vast functions the school performs.

We are confident that our link with our partner provisions within SHINE along with the enthusiasm and dedication of our Headteacher, and all staff that we will continue to ensure our provision is successful and a brilliant learning environment for every pupil!

Minutes of LGB and its Resources Committee meetings are public documents – you can request these via our office or by contacting our Clerk (clerk@shine-mat.com).

Yours faithfully
