Our school was opened in January 1967. It is set in pleasant and spacious grounds that include gardens and a pond. We are a County co-educational primary school catering for pupils between the age of 5 - 11 years of age. The vast majority of our Y6 pupils transfer to The Elizabethan High School in Retford, an 11 to 16 comprehensive school.
We share our site with Ranskill Nursery. This is an exciting time for the nursery as a new Nursery building is currently under construction (still within the school site). This is due for completion Early 2011.
The May 2010 Ofsted inspection found that the children enjoy school. They treat others with respect and behave well, They like coming to a small school. The pupils have opportunities to write in a range of subjects and, as a result, the writing is above average. The children speak highly of the teachers because they make learning fun and treat them with respect. One pupil told the Inspector that the teachers are ‘strict but fair’. There are high expectations for the pupils. The curriculum is varied and the children are encouraged to develop their skills as well as gain knowledge. The school has good links with the local community, especially the church.
Ofsted also noted that parents appreciate the good care, support and guidance that ensures their children feel safe and know how to take care of themselves. Most parents and carers feel well-informed about their child’s progress and always feel welcome in the school.
We work closely with the other schools within The Elizabethan Family, meeting regularly throughout the year to discuss curriculum related matters and very good relationships have developed. We are also part of the local Small School Federation, working together to arrange joint activities such as Federation Sports Day.
Within school we believe the quality of our teaching and interactions with children is the most significant factor in determining:-
· pupils’ attitudes to lifelong learning;
·rate of pupil progress;
·standards of attainment;
We always welcome prospective parents to come and look around our school with their children. We have found from experience that this is a great help to parents in making the important decision about which school will best suit their children's needs.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.
